* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot: When X-23 arrives on the team, Jean notes that Scott finds her attractive, and over the next few issues they seem to bond to the point that Jean is ''visibly'' jealous. However whatever development they had together was subsequently derailed with Scott leaving to go into space with his father. While the cover of issue 20 proved highly divisive, many fans actually found them to be an interesting pairing, both due to the common ground between them,[[note]]both are victims of severe emotional and physical abuse in their childhoods, both struggle to connect with others emotionally, and because Scott is frequently and unfairly judged for things his adult self did, while Laura still struggles to be seen by others as more than a weapon and a killer with a side helping of CloningBlues[[/note]] and the idea of Scott Summers hooking up with the female clone of Wolverine hit ''several'' sources of fanservice all at once. Even opponents of the pairing agreed that a scene of Cyclops and Wolverine learning of Scott's younger self and Logan's "daughter" in a relationship was fertile ground for hilarity, and that a relationship between Laura and Teen!Scott would have been ''far'' better-established than her subsequent hookup with Warren.

*** Finally, fans are split on the matter of whether or not this means the present day Bobby is secretly gay, as all of the Teen O5 are supposed to be from Universe 616 in the past. If this reveal means Adult Bobby is gay, then it's either the usual issue of Bendis not respecting continuity or it makes sense that Adult Bobby would never reveal his homosexuality in the 1960's era. If Adult Bobby isn't gay, then the past O5 aren't the same people as the future O5 after all and there goes a perfectly good attempt at adding more diversity to an established cast, or it's great news because not every fan likes the past O5 and any proof that the two aren't connected to the same timeline is music to their ears. The issue was addressed in the crossover ''Uncanny X-Men #600'' where the two Bobbies and Jean discuss it. It establishes to about 90 percent certainty that Adult Bobby has always been closeted and simply didn't want to deal with another source of persecution in his life. Later series such as ComicBook/IcemanMarvelComics would fully establish adult Bobby as being gay, while ComicBook/Extermination2018 would confirm that the teen X-Men are one and the same with their adult versions.

There's still a sliver of wiggle room left that another writer could use to write a hetero Adult Bobby, though.

*** There's also general concern over Jean's past manipulation of people's minds, with some taking the way the scene is written as implying [[UnfortunateImplications Jean's statement that Bobby was gay was a command meant to alter his mind.]]

* UnfortunateImplications: The reveal of Bobby being gay was handled poorly to say the least, particularly [[https://www.popmatters.com/195419-x-men-bobby-drake-coming-out-story-2495507386.html being outed against one's will]], and, well, [[https://www.themarysue.com/all-new-x-men-bisexuality/ bi-erasure]].

** Tyke and Tank for teen Cyclops and Beast respectively. The former becomes an AscendedMeme in issue 40 when Magick calls him "Tyke-clops," much to the amusement of Jean and Bobby.
** [[spoiler:Baby Xavier for Xavier II]].

* {{Wangst}}: In ''All-New X-Men'' vol 2 issue 6, Warren has an extended inner monologue ranting about Laura's recklessness, and that he understands what it is to have a dark side that requires constant struggle to control better than she thinks because of the Vortex. However while Laura's childhood was one of constant ''literal'' torture and physical and emotional abuse, losing her only family, ''and'' an unknown amount of time spent as a homeless prostitute prior to her finally finding the X-Men, Warren had a privileged upbringing with a wealthy, loving family. Not only that, but he ''chose'' to take the Vortex in what was ''itself'' a reckless bid to avoid his future, making what's ''supposed'' to be a NotSoDifferentRemark come across as this. However, he does have the decency to admit that he screwed up when Laura calls him on this in issue 12.

* {{Adorkable}}:
** A teenaged Cyclops with none of the [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold jerkassery]] associated with his older self. If he didn't already qualify for this, his hugs certainly make him do.
** X-23, of all people, has a moment when she gets into a fight while on a date with Warren, and gives [[http://wyrmfyrforge.net/Images/X23Goofy.png a particularly adorable sheepish grin]] when he reminds her against using her claws. Seeing her acting like a typical teenage girl curious what a boy likes about her also qualifies.

Mind Rape? Multiple times?

* AlternateCharacterInterpretation: Teen Jean Grey is a jerkass brat who abuses her newly-acquired telepathic powers or merely a flawed teenager reacting to an awful situation in believable ways? Let's remember her biggest -and nearly only- crime is reading minds without previous consent; which most of time she does unwillingly because her telepathy is too strong.
