• Awesome Music: The Middle Eastern oud composition used as the Algeria theme is high-energy and catchy — good thing too, since Algeria is the largest stretch of trail in the game and you'll be hearing it a lot.
• Unintentional Period Piece: The game could not be more firmly dated to 1995 if it had been done deliberately. It is set after the end of apartheid in South Africa (1994) and the Mozambican Civil War (1992) but before the beginning of the Congo Wars in 1996, as the former is mentioned constantly but the latter is completely absent (and it would come up, since you're traveling through Zaire - which is still called such, firmly dating the game to before 1997 - at one point). The Taureg rebellion, which ended in April 1995, appears to still be ongoing as you're passing through southern Algeria and northern Niger but you avoid encountering any trouble.
