- Audience-Alienating Premise: Depicting a country that has had a very turbulent history and been associated with terrorism in such a cutesy manner can be off-putting to most. Doesn't help that Osama bin Laden is depicted as a rowdy kitten and the 9/11 attacks that killed nearly 3000 people is equated with Meriken getting bitten on the hand.
- Cult Classic: Even moreso its short lived sequel.
- Harsher in Hindsight: As Meriken beats the hell out of Afganisu-tan, Osama bin Kitty is shown to be taking refuge beside Pakisu-tan, which pretends to know nothing of it.
- Moe: Every character.
- The Woobie: The eponymous character goes through so much it makes you want to hug the actual country. If it wasn’t bigger than your arms could stretch, of course.
