* CultClassic: Many gay horror fans have claimed the movie as their own, with Jesse's sexual confusion reflecting their experiences. The fact that it is one of the few sequels that has the darker Freddy Krueger before he was {{Flanderiz|ation}}ed into a LaughablyEvil PungeonMaster also helps.

* AssPull: Nancy's diary, which was never shown or mentioned in the first film, shows up here with useful info on Freddy Krueger.

* ContestedSequel: The film was destroyed by critics at the time of release and this seems to have influenced the producers, since its events are ignored for almost all the sequels. While everyone agrees that the film is far inferior to the original, it also has many defenders and has become a CultClassic in recent years. However, in recent years there's been a CriticalBacklash by people who see the film as an allegory for a gay teenager's struggle with self-hatred, and think the movie was largely killed by homophobia. It doesn't help that [[http://www.cracked.com/article_17097_the-5-most-unintentionally-gay-horror-movies.html a disturbingly large number of people mocked the film for being "unintentionally" gay.]]

* JerksAreWorseThanVillains: Krugger is a serial child murderer and implied pedophile, but he at least has an EvilIsCool factor from his powers, design, and quips. You can't say that about Coach Schnider. Coach Schneider is despised by fans because of his cruel treatment toward all of the school students, especially Jesse and Grady, and is also implied to a pedophile, but [[RealismInducedHorror his lack of supernatural powers ironically makes him scarier than Freddy]]. Nobody was mourning his murder at Freddy's hand ([[GrandTheftMe well technically Jessie's hand]]), so if anybody in the A Nightmare on Elm Street franchise deserved to be killed by Freddy Krueger, it's Coach Schneider.

* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter: Nancy Thompson never appears in the film, with the characters just citing that she lost her sanity after witnessing the deaths of Glen and her mother. Jesse and Lisa never consider looking for her to ask for help in defeating Freddy, something she would certainly do. It is even more bizarre when the script throws a diary out of nowhere with Nancy's information about Freddy, although we never saw Nancy writing a diary in the first film.

* TheScrappy: Coach Schneider is despised by fans because of his cruel treatment toward all of the school students, especially towards Jesse and Grady and is also despised because he intended to do bad things to Jesse. Fans were so happy that Freddy killed him. Sure, Freddy is an abhorrent and loathsome, but despite that, he has a huge fandom. Nobody likes Coach Schneider at all. And if anybody in the ''A Nightmare On Elm Street'' franchise deserved to be killed by Freddy Krueger, it's Coach Schneider.

** Freddy materializing in the real world and killing a lot of teenagers at a party. As strange as it is, it is still very interesting to see Freddy using his tricks in the real world to kill several people at once.
