Mosley is a 2019 computer-animated fantasy film produced by New Zealand animation company Huhu Studios.
In ancient times, the thoriphants were a tall bipedal species who migrated north in response to human encroachment. Those that stayed behind were enslaved by humanity, who used them as beasts of burden. Gradually, their backs became bent and they lost the use of their hands. Some thoriphants believe that their cousins known as the Uprights will return to free them one day.
This work contains the following tropes:
- Bittersweet Ending: Mosley and his family become upright and they leave Simon's farm together. But the same cannot be said for all the other four-legged thoriphants enslaved by humanity.
- Formerly Sapient Species: Downplayed with the thoriphants, who have been degraded into four-legged beasts of burden after being enslaved by humans, but retain their ability to speak.
- Furry Confusion: The thoriphants are upright, clothes-wearing beings who are clearly unsettled by the sight of the naked, quadrupedal Mosley.
- Humans Are Bastards: The humans have no issues enslaving, abusing and selling these work animals that are clearly talking intelligent beings.
- Mix-and-Match Critter: The thoriphants resemble a cross between a goat, a hippo and an elephant.
