“Daddy Duck” is a 1948 Classic Disney Short starring Donald Duck.
Donald Duck adopts a joey and experiences the difficulties of fatherhood.
- Aw, Look! They Really Do Love Each Other: Joey attacks the bear because he is willing to save Donald, unaware that it’s only an act by Donald. Once he thinks he defeated the bear and saved Donald, Joey kisses him and Donald cheers up.
- Bears Are Bad News: Played With! Joey is easily scared of the bearskin rug. Donald plays along pretending to fight, and then be eaten by the bear.
- The Faceless: The woman working at the adoption bureau who constantly calls Donald to check in on him.
- Hates Baths: Joey refuses to take his bath when Donald tries giving him one.
- Papa Wolf: Donald invokes this when realizing that Joey is scared of the bearskin rug. He puts on the act of fighting the bear in defense of his adopted son. Donald even enjoys this.
- Joey inverts this when he suddenly gains the courage to save Donald attacking the bear, unaware it’s only an act.
- Swallowed Whole: Also invoked by Donald. While pretending to fight the bear, Donald climbs into its mouth pretending to be eaten. Joey, taking it too literally, is understandably horrified.
