Gotta be sneakier than that, Pluto...

Bone Trouble is a 1940 Disney cartoon starring Pluto the Pup.

Pluto wakes up one morning to find that his food bowl has been picked clean by birds. With a sad look, Pluto is hungry. When he hears a loud snore, he takes a peek next door. He finds a big bone in the yard next door, guarded by a sleeping Butch the bulldog. Pluto has a plan and digs under the fence. When he is in Butch's yard, he sneaks past a tree and goes underneath a tire. Pluto grabs the bone but Butch eventually wakes up. Pluto goes back to his own yard to enjoy the bone. Butch shows up and wants the bone back. Pluto tries to trick Butch but he caught on. A chase pursues around town and into an empty carnival. The chase goes through a "Tunnel of Love" ride to reverse the chase. Pluto hides in a hall of mirrors attraction where he amuses himself with the reflections. Pluto uses the mirror to transform into various animals. Butch eventually finds him, but Pluto has a surprise waiting for him. In a room with multiple reflections, Pluto roared to cause his reflections to look intimidating. Butch gets scared and flees. Pluto winks at the reflections and goes off with his bone.

Tropes:

  • Blow You Away: The chase between Butch and Pluto was so fast that it caused wind currents to form. These wind currents made a poster of a belly dancer girl look liked it was belly dancing.
  • Bully Bulldog: Butch, who serves as Pluto's antagonist in many of his shorts, makes his debut here.
  • Chekhov's Gag: Pluto's mirror reflections initially scare him, but when he sees what they are, he uses them to his advantage against Butch.
  • Deranged Animation: The hall of mirrors sequence, full of bizarre and unlikely reflections.
  • Don't Wake the Sleeper: Pluto tries his best not to wake Butch up when stealing the bone.
  • Hall of Mirrors: Where Pluto hides from Butch. He at first ignores and is then frightened by the bizarre reflections, but once he notices them, he has fun playing with the mirrors. When Butch enters the hall, Pluto lures him into a room with many large reflections of himself, which growl at Butch and scare him away.
  • Look Behind You: Pluto attempts to trick Butch by looking and smiling what is behind Butch. However, it didn't work well.
  • Mirror Routine: Pluto has fun playing with the many distorted mirrors in the carnival, which make him look like other animals. Then he runs into Butch, thinking it's another reflection. He is perplexed that the "reflection" isn't imitating him, but it's not until Butch growls at him that Pluto finally wises up.
  • Scooby-Dooby Doors: After Butch chased Pluto into the "Tunnel of Love" ride, the situation looked like Butch was chased by Pluto.
  • Shadow of Impending Doom: Pluto is about to enjoy Butch's bone when he notices a shadow coming from overhead. He looks up to see an angry Butch standing over him.
  • Sultry Belly Dancer: Appears on a poster at the abandoned carnival; as Pluto and Butch rush into the place, a small gag is done where the wind currents from the dogs' chase drag the poster and have it shake, making the dancer on it gyrate.
