Mega Cynics is a webcomic written by Steven Dengler and Ash Vickers and primarily illustrated by Ash. It is a pseudo-autobiographical Slice of Life comic about the two half-siblings, about twenty years apart in age, who only first met in 2007 but found surprisingly much in common. The comic generally takes the daily gag format, with no "story arcs" to speak of.
This comic contains examples of:
- Ascended Fanboy: Steven, who went from being a fan of The Secret of Monkey Island to helping Tim Schafer fund ports of Double Fine games. And now they're working on one together!
- He is also the Big Bad of Satellite Reign, a Spiritual Successor to Syndicate, courtesy of a generous donation.
- Cosplay: Steven dresses up as Razputin in a strip that was later revealed to be an announcement that he was helping fund the Mac port of Psychonauts.
- Eccentric Millionaire: Steven's largess and "investment" habits, probably Flanderized to a small extent
- One strip depicts Steven riding a giraffe in the desert, flanked by supermodels.
- Face Palm: In one strip, Tim Schafer is farming jokes on Twitter, and Steven responds with a relatively lewd analogy. This is Tim's response.
- Hard-Drinking Party Girl: Ash, played for laughs
- He Also Did: Steven also runs Dracogen, who funded the Mac port of Psychonauts, and the PC port of Costume Quest, among other things.
- Like Brother and Sister: Weirdly inverted. The two long-lost siblings fall into this kind of relationship extremely quickly, despite not knowing of each others' existence for twenty years. Watching this interaction play out is probably the comic's biggest draw.
- Loophole Abuse: A pug can be a ninja, according to the sacred scrolls.
- Long-Lost Relative: Part of the non-fictional backstory
- Mr. Fanservice: In Steven's head, Tim Schafer, Kevin Levine, Tom Hall, and Chris Avellone are this. Ash is skeptical.
- No Celebrities Were Harmed: featuring regular appearances by Tim Schafer, Ken Levine, Tom Hall, and Chris Avellone, among other famous game designer friends of Steven's
- Non-Idle Rich: Pilot, renegade angel investor, internet entrepreneur...
- Rich Boredom
