"Listen to the sound of a country breathe.
The wind full of smoke, the rivers that carve their way into memory.
Listen to the remnants of delusion,
The whispers of a once and future tragedy.
The gods killed by kings, the kings by their people,
The people by their people."
Prologue

Catechism is a 2023 webcomic by Emily Xu and Celina. It began much earlier as a series of animatics, which have since been removed from the internet.

It focuses on Yun, a struggling student living in the New Anwei Republic. Updates are sporadic, but a prologue and the first four chapters are already out. No relation to the actual Catholic catechism.

Webtoon for mobile devices, Artist's channel.

Catechism contains examples of:

Musician: Listen to the sound of a country breathe...and then stop. The perpetual wind: suffocating, indifferent. Something like that?
Puppeteer: Make it less depressing. Who’s gonna stay, with an opening like that?
  • Fell Off the Back of a Truck: Yun tries to pull this with lyssa in chapter two, in order to pay for his mother’s medicine. It doesn’t work out, and she ends up killing herself with sleeping pills.
  • Framing Device: The musician and the puppeteer’s story serves as a combination of this and a Myth Prologue. Later, the story of the cockroach is used in the same way.
  • Healing Herb: Lyssa flowers can be used in this way to treat diseases.
  • Withholding the Cure: It's revealed in chapter four that the government has been hiding the existence of a cure for sleeping sickness.
