"I am DEPRESSED!"
AAQ's Trainer Card

Twitch Plays Pokémon (TPP) is a series of social experiments in which commands representing buttons on an original Nintendo DS (up, down, left, right, A, B, X, Y, L, R, start, and select) and touchscreen coordinates are entered into a chat on Twitch, and then translated into a game of Pokémon via an IRC bot. In short, hundreds of people are fighting over a controller. Throughout its life, Twitch Plays Pokémon has spawned hilarious characters, memorable moments, and even a few religions.

Twitch Plays Pokémon Volt White is the second run of Season 6, which ran from April 13th, 2019 to April 2th, 2019. The game featured in this run, Pokémon Volt White, is a hack of Pokémon White created by Drayano60. This makes it the third of Dray's hacks to be used for a main run after Blaze Black 2 and Storm Silver. Among other changes, it features an enhanced difficulty, and a wider range of Pokémon found in the wild, with all 649 available in some form.

The Host for this run was initially a boy named "♂♂♀YYy??"; however, one member of the stream staff soft-reseted the game, causing a girl named "AAQ" (widely interpreted as "Aqua") to be chosen instead. After choosing Snivy as her starter and hiding behind the Professor's lab for a moment, AAQ reluctantly started her quest to defeat both Team Plasma and the Pokémon Champion, facing many arduous challenges along the way.

Twitch Plays Pokémon Volt White contains examples of:

  • Angst: A day after the run started, the blurb on Aqua's Trainer Card was changed to "I am DEPRESSED!". As a result, the majority of the lore for the run focused on her suffering from depression.
  • Book Ends: The run started with a male protagonist being picked, which was then soft-reseted into a female one. Shortly before it ended, the blurb on Aqua's Trainer Card was changed to state "I am BOY!".
  • History Repeats: Just like GMYC before her, AAQ refused to use the Legendary Dragon during her battle against N. She however took it a step further by releasing it afterwards.
  • Screw Destiny: Despite being recognized by Zekrom as the Hero of Ideals, AAQ refused to use it in her battle against N, and released it shortly after. Later, she captured Reshiram, the dragon of the Hero of Truth, and used it to defeat the Pokémon League.
