The cover for the now discontinued fancomic iteration.
Heroes of Ashihara Village, formerly known as Animal Crossing fanfiction Heroes of Animal Village, is an original literature work by Angawd.

The series, originally a webcomic, tells the story of eight animals chosen to go on a rescue mission after their beloved mayor is snatched by a dark entity. Although gifted powers by the gods, only time will tell if they are prepared to face the ancient evil that lies ahead.

The old webcomic can be read at any of these available websites. Currently, the story is intended for written format, and is in the process of being converted from fanfiction to a fully original work.

Provides examples of:

  • All Myths Are True: Some of the Heroes don't believe in the gods at first...until they prove themselves to be absolutely real and gift the protagonists elemental powers to boot.
  • Animal Religion: The inhabitants of Nippon worship a pantheon of primordial gods, believed to have created the world.
  • Artistic License – Geography: Despite the story being set in Nippon (another name for Japan), it is not a complete replica of the real-world country. Additionally, the settlements are more England-inspired.
  • Elemental Powers: Each of the Heroes are blessed with these as a gift from their predecessors, the Primordials:
    • Isabelle/Stormbringer: Lightning
    • K.K./Spearshard: Ice
    • Tom/Earthshaker: Earth
    • Rubicante/Tsuneflare: Fire
    • Sophie/Soulshine: Soul/Healing
    • Reese/Heartstrong: Heart/Healing
    • Blathers/Cosmind: Telepathy/Telekenesis
    • Kapp'n/Torrentmaster: Water
  • Hero Protagonist: Eight of them, in fact. They're outright referred to as 'The Heroes', and they quite literally go on a heroes' journey.
  • Meaningful Name: Quite a few examples:
    • Ashihara Village itself. In Japanese mythology, the plane between Takamagahara (heaven) and Yomi (hell) is named Ashihara no Nakatsukuni - fittingly, Ashihara Village is said to have the greatest connection to the gods.
    • Tengan is a Japanese name meaning "celestial crown". This is fitting for his mayoral position, as he is greatly revered by the townsfolk as if he were a king.
    • Rubicante is Italian for "red-faced terror". This is taken from Dante's Inferno, and describes how others see Rubicante on a surface level. He's known to intimidate, and he is a red fox.
  • Mission from God: Gods, in this case. The driving force of the story is the Primordials' request for the Heroes to find and rescue their mayor, who has been captured by a dark entity.
  • Precursor Heroes: The Primordials, sometimes referred to as the Primordial Heroes, are this. They are the original holders of the modern-day Heroes' powers, and each of them bears resemblance to their earthly counterparts.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Rubicante and Tom respectively: Rubicante is hot-tempered and unpredictable, whereas his adoptive brother is much calmer and more joyful.
