"How do we do this?"
"The fate of the world will be decided with this. Everything we have worked for over the years. The world we wanted to make. [...] They are counting on us to make the right choice. Peace, or war..."

INTERLOPERS: Hopes & Dreams from Olathe is a fan-made Crossover Spin-Off of Undertale and LISA created by Jael Peñaloza. It's a sequel series to Interlopers and centers around Buddy and Chara trying to retake and save Olathe.

Years after Buddy and Chara have left Chara's world in search of a vaccine for Chara's Joy-addiction, they have become True Companions, fighting their way through Olathe's wasteland. But things cannot stay (relatively) peaceful for long. There is new hope for Olathe's future on the horizon, but new enemies as well.

The series was announced via a sneak peek on Peñaloza's Youtube channel on December the 10th, 2021.

The first episode premiered on the channel a day later, on December the 11th, 2021.

     Sneak Peeks and Trailers

     Main Series
  • #1 - Chara and Buddy adjust to life together in Olathe.
  • #2 - When Buddy hears that her uncle Rick is still alive but has been kidnapped, her and Chara embark on a rescue mission.

Provides examples of:

  • Back-to-Back Badasses: Fighting by each other's side in Olathe has greatly strengthened Chara's and Buddy's teamwork.
  • Foregone Conclusion: Since the very first scene of the series shows us Chara in their twenties, still by Buddy's side and conspicuously un-mutated, one can assume that they at least manage to get a handle on their Joy-addiction until that point in time and don't become a Joy-crazed monster.
  • In Medias Res: #1 starts out with a look at Buddy and Chara in their early twenties, discussing how to proceed with their plans for Olathe, before flashing back to years earlier.
  • Living on Borrowed Time: Due to taking Joy to protect Buddy in Interlopers, Chara is on their way to becoming a mutant and is also heavily implied to have already developed a Joy-addiction. Them and Buddy still haven't found a second vaccine by the time the series starts and #2's ending implies the Joy Chara already took is starting to make them relapse into their old violent ways.
  • Meeting-the-Parents Sequel: A downplayed and very twisted example. One of the first things Buddy does after her and Chara arrive in Olathe is to introduce them to a mutated Brad.
  • Mood Whiplash: #1 has a moment in which Buddy and Chara joke around after killing a bunch of Joy Mutants - until Chara spots some Joy pills lying on the ground near the corpses, causing them to go dead silent as their addiction starts to kick in.
  • The Stinger: The after-credits-scene in episode #2 reveals not only that remnants of the Joy-gang are still about and looking for Buddy, but also that their leader is a woman. Not only that, Dr. Yado had dozens of women cryogenically frozen and locked away somewhere, with the only way to free them being a key tied to his own genetic code. Since Buddy is the only person left alive with Yado's genes, she is the only one who can save the women and the future of Olathe.
