The old female that helped the mother indricothere find water during the drought is her own mother

We see the mother being a bit hard to her two older calves, but those calves are male. Maybe the bond is not as drastically cut between females and they rekindle in the dry season.

  • The book says, “Sometimes mothers tolerate the continued presence of another female...” So it’s quite possible.

In the show, terror birds mate for life

This is why nearly all are in pairs, despite not seeming to be breeding or hierarchical.

The mother brontothere is aware about the death of its calf

But doesn't give up about seeing her calf dead. Like all mammals, she has a strong social bond with her offspring as said by the narrator.
