WARNING UNMARKED SPOILERS AHEAD

Lucas Ran Away

  • After the confrontation with The Father, Lucas decides that the Truth is Meaningless and decides to leave Kingdom. When Ann and Marie leave Kingdom, they pass a man with black hair and a guitar (that is Lucas). Lucas is the only character seen with a guitar, in his dark room, and he could have easily dyed his hair.

The Father's Wife Killed Lucas

  • When Lucas finds out that The Father has been abusing his position to have affairs, he decides to reveal the truth. However, The Wife intervenes to protect The Patriarchy. Following Lucas to the his spot by the observatory, she kills him and buries him under the rocks where Ann found Marie's necklace.

The Patriarchy

This is going to get a little feminist, which isn't bad, but is political, and politics are ALWAYS divisive. So please temper yourself accordingly.
  • The "Cult" seen in the game is not an organization or group, but is a symbol for the oppression of women in society. Through the game we see men in positions of power, and women who work for, care for, or serve them. Ann's lipstick is a symbol of her 'accepting her place,' working as a cog in the machine that allows the Patriarchy to thrive. She may come to the reins of power in the machine, but the machine will not change, and will continue turning. However, when she casts her mask and lipstick aside, she refuses to serve the Patriarchy and chooses to make her own place.

The Truth Is Meaningless

  • The truth doesn't matter.
    • Where is Lucas? What did he learn? Why did he disappear? The real question is; How Would Knowing Help Anything? When Lucas found out what The Father was doing, it only brought him tragedy, and even worse, if he told everyone, nothing would probably change. The Wife might leave him, The Mistress might get a bad reputation, but The Father is more than likely going to keep his job and positionnote . Whether Lucas is alive or not, the truth ended his life in Kingdom, Virginia. How much is the truth really worth?
    • If Lucas Ran Away is true, in that field Lucas decided the truth was meaningless, and left Kingdom, letting well enough alone.
  • When Ann was in the cell, she had a vision of what her life could be like if she gave up her pursuit of truth. By discarding the truth, Ann would be free. Free to do the job her superiors hired her for, to remove Problem Agents as cleanly as possible. When no longer shackled by the truth, Ann quickly ascends through the ranks of the FBI, while destroying dozens of her fellow FBI agents' careers, all starting with her current partner Marie.

The Truth Is the Only Meaning

  • When Ann was in the holding cell, she had a choice. She could have discarded the truth, worn her mask, and play by their rules. But if she did this it would never end, Lucas would never be found, and she would destroy her friend's life. In that holding cell, Ann decided that the truth had meaning, and finding the truth was meaning in itself. So Ann takes LSD, inside a police station, in order to find the truth. During the LSD trip, Ann finds the truth, she finds Lucas, and she also finds herself.

Animals and Who They Represent

  • Male cardinal, the state bird of Virginia.
    • Throughout the game, the cardinal has been tied to Maria.
    • The cardinal is the truth, throughout the game we see Ann constantly trying to catch or attain a cardinal, only for it to elude her.
  • The Bison, THERE ARE NO BISONS IN VIRGINIA!!!!note
    • Lucas, the Bison is a symbol of how Lucas was sacrificed for something, possibly the powerful secrets. Or how he is guiding you along your journey.
    • The Bison is a symbol of happiness, how it was sacrificed for the truth.
