- When the mechanic started hitting the cylinder with his shovel, the Martians mistook his shovel for a a weapon and took it as an aggressive act against them.
The Martian in the farmhouse
- Was a diplomat sent to earth to negotiate a ceasefire and possible set up some kind of treaty where the Martians and humans would share the planet once they realized that humans were no match (and not understanding where human power is located is the reason why they landed on a farmhouse), and Clayton harming it continued the war.
- The leader of a Martian faction that disagreed with the invasion of Earth and wanted to negotiate some kind of alliance with the humans.
