WMG / The Trojan Cycle

Go To

The siege of Troy was only one theatre of a far larger war and the start of Zeus' plan to depopulate the area
Achilles' first combat experience was the Trojan War, yet by the Iliad he's already sacked multiple cities, and the list of allies of Troy includes people from all over Anatolia - and generally the sphere of influence of the Hittite Empire. Chance is, when the Achaeans arrived to Troy the city was reinforced by its allies and even the Hittites, and the Achaean beating back the relief forces and sacking their cities caused rebellions among the Hittite's subjects, resurgence of their beaten enemies, and the arrival of raiders and migrants from far away as Sicily and Sardinia to take advantage of the chaos, preventing the intervention of the still intact Egypt (by this time a Hittite ally), causing the Bronze Age Collapse while the Achaeans were finally free to go back to the siege they had left home for.All per Zeus' plan, who had decided the nations of the Eastern Mediterranean needed depopulation.
  • When one looks at the Sea Peoples and the theories about their origins, one finds nations from both sides of the Trojan War, with two (the Denyen and Ekwesh) having names suspiciously similar to Danaoi and Akhaioí, two of the names used by Homer for the Greeks. The grand coalition that was defeated by Rameses III was composed of both survivors from Troy's allies and Achaeans that upon coming back home were chased away by those who had stayed back and/or usurpers plus their followers, that buried the hatchet over their mutual resentment over Paris' inability to be a decent guest, Helen getting scapegoated, and Egypt's failure to intervene and force an early settlement.
