Lillie Massen is still alive
Lillie Massen, daughter of Gilbert Massen, who is seen to have been touched by a spore, is not actually dead—she is actually imprisoned in the basement of the Massen Estate. She's what the man running the telephone wires hears/sees the shadows moving, not "rabid dogs."- Yes, that seems rather obvious, especially since a guy who's grieving his sweet little girl wouldn't just have a curt, loveless epitaph like "Daughter." on her gravestone. Given that Massen kept mentioning "deformities" as a result of being Touched, it seems likely that his daughter has some disfiguring physical "turn" and he stopped loving her because of that, deciding to lock her up in a dank cell like an animal and pretend that she died. Because as far as he is concerned, he lost her the day of the "attack".
