WMG / Spider Baby or, the Maddest Story Ever Told

Go To

Tidas W. Merrye was a carrier for the Merrye Syndrome; he himself did not have it.
  • How else could he, as an adult, be enough of sound mind to entrust Bruno with the care of his three children, with all the specific rules and requirements described in the film?
  • The implication that Peter's daughter may have the Merrye Syndrome means that the Merrye Syndrome can be inherited from someone who does not display symptoms of the syndrome. Therefore it's not out of the question for Tidas W. Merrye to have been a carrier for the gene who passed the Merrye Syndrome to his children.
  • The reason that the children's generation of the Merrye family is the last one is because, unlike the previous generation, all of the family members are afflicted with the Merrye Syndrome.
The film takes place on August 14th, 1954.
  • Peter says in his opening narration that the incident that ended the Merrye Syndrome occurred 10 years before the present. Given that the movie was filmed during August-September of 1964, this would mean the movie takes place in 1954.
  • It's also mentioned during film that it takes place on the 14th ("Today's the fourteenth!"). If we're going with when the movie was filmed (August-September) that narrows the date down to either August 14th, 1954 or September 14th, 1954.
  • Finally, the film also mentions taking place during a full moon ("There's going to be a full moon tonight."). If we look at moon phase calenders for 1954, we will see that on August 14th, there really was a full moon, but not on September 14th. This therefore proves that the events of Spider Baby took place on the exact date of 8/14/1954.
