Grock was Geela's father.

Tie-in media explains that Tibbitt, Empress Geela's pet dragon, was a gift from her late father. Grock was the first emperor of the Pentangle. We don't know how old Geela is, nor how long her species can live, and Grock was an emperor while she's an empress. That would also explain how she had Grock's ring in the first place.
