Waffle House Millionare was being mentally influenced by an actual supernatural entity.
Maybe it was an Angel with a sense of humor. Maybe a ghost. Maybe it was a Hindu god of mischief. Maybe Loki. Maybe the native American god Coyote. Whichever belief system turns out to be correct. Point is, there's simply no other way that you could write a character that's an Expy of someone from a movie you've never watched, with a backstory partly written in a language you don't speak. The only other explanation is that the story was either embellished or a complete fabrication.
  • It could easily be legit. This troper has, personally, seen stuff just as crazy happen when a person’s mind goes without sleep for a few days and slips into a major euphoria during that time. The only real inconsistency is that the GM of the game would have to be very permissive and accommodating for these events to occur, so it seems that Nowhere and WHM may have overblown how much of a dick he was.
    • Are you seriously telling me that sleep deprivation can bestow temporary bilinguality? Where the heck is this new information coming from?

  • Maybe Hastur did it as a joke?

  • Henderson could easily have been influenced — consciously or not — by another Dude expy that WHM had seen, and therefore be accidentally based on the Dude at one remove. I’ve got nothing on the German, though.

The charity Old Man Henderson donated the proceeds from his lawn gnomes was a front for the Hastur cult
So, in a way, the cult did steal his lawn gnomes.
