Potential monsters in Iceborne:

I believe that the Nargacuga may be making a return

  • Confirmed

15th Anniversary Monsters

As part of their celebration of the 15th Anniversary of the Monster Hunter series, Capcom released this picture, featuring all-new, Highly-detailed images/models of several past and present Flagship Monsters and Elder Dragons. Many fans believe that Capcom intends to put this work to use by including them in the Iceborne expansion or the following updates they've planned. The fact that several of them have already(as of August 2019) been announced or teased for the expansionnote  lends credence to the theory.

  • Lagiacrus(again)
    • They tried to put him in the base game in the first place, and have had a year or more to try to get it right.
    • Jossed again, unfortunately. They're apparently saving Lagi for the sequel.
  • Zinogre
    • Iceborne seems to be bringing back the Flagship monsters from previous games, and he and Seregios are about the only ones left. On the other hand, Ebony Odogaron and Fulgur Anjanath seem to cover his bases.
    • Of all things, a set of promotional cookies seems to point further in this direction.
    • Confirmed.
  • Seregios
  • Gore Magala
  • Fatalis
    • Confirmed.
  • Valstrax

More Elder Dragons

G/Ultimate games tend to add more of these to the mix.
  • Akantor
  • Ukanlos
  • Yama Tsukani
  • Lao Shan Lung
  • Alatreon
    • Confirmed
  • Shagaru Magala

Gigginox or Khezu

A Game Informer article talking about a Barioth hunt mentions another Monster(That they said they couldn't mention at the time) dropping in from the cave ceiling and getting a few hits in. Both Monsters tend to hang around in the caves of frozen environments and hang from the ceiling.
  • Jossed. The Monster turned out to be a new subspecies for Tobi-Kadachi.

Gold Rathian and Silver Rathalos

The base game already gave us the Pink and Azure forms for High Rank. Continuing to Gold and Silver for Master Rank seems to be the next logical step.
  • Confirmed.

Additional Subspecies for returning Monsters

Given the new Subspecies for Glavenus, bringing back the Subs for the other older monsters is an easy way to expand the game. Tentatively Confirmed, as a German article on the game mentions that Nargacuga, Tigrex, and Barioth will have subspecies'.
  • Sand Barioth
  • Steel Uragaan
  • Brute or Molten Tigrex
    • Brute Tigrex confirmed.
  • Green or Lucent Nargacuga
  • Jade Barroth
  • Oroshi Kirin
  • Stygian Zinogre
    • Confirmed

More Variant/Deviant Monsters

Shrieking Legiana has already been established. Variants from previous games, or all new ones for the Fifth Generation(or even older) Monsters are also a possibility
  • Dreadqueen Rathian/Dreadking Rathalos
  • Bloodbath Diablos
  • Grimclaw Tigrex
  • Silverwind Nargacuga
  • Rusted Kushala Daora
  • Crystalbeard Uragaan
  • Savage Deviljho
    • Confirmed.
  • Thunderlord Zinogre(?)
  • Raging Brachydios
    • Confirmed.
  • Hellblade Glavenus

The Huntsman is horribly burnt underneath that armor.
The Huntsman is the only member of the Research Expedition that doesn't show his face at all (in fact, we don't even see any skin at all), and of all the monsters, his main rival is Teostra, the Elder Dragon most heavily associated with fire. If the Huntsman battled Teostra before and couldn't defeat him, he probably survived the ordeal with some fire damage done for his trouble.

The Guiding Lands are The remains of Zorah Magdaros
.SPOILER: At the end of the Normal Rank portion of the main game, Zorah Magdaros swims off somewhere else to die safely, where it is said he will become a new land. The Guiding Lands are the result.
  • The fact that in the Rotten Vale portion of the GL is what looks like a Zorah skull may make this more believable except the fact that it is a really short timeframe.
    • Alternatively, it IS a Zorah remains, not the one you repelled but another individual of the species who died a long time ago.

The Tracker was once the Admirals Handler.
We already know that the Meowscular Chef was the Admiral's Palico, so suitably his Handler would also be a badass, the Tracker is already doing a lot of what your Handler is trying to do, and with the Admiral off doing his own thing, his Palico isn't hunting anymore, it would make sense that his Handler went off to do her own thing.

The reason Shara Ishvalda looks at the camera
Besides the obvious Rule of Scary, is likely because Shara Ishvalda is staring into the soul of the Hunter. This soul, of course, is you, the player, and that's why the eyes follow you specifically.
  • Or its eyes may just have atrophied due to it spending most of its life underground (it probably tracks the hunter's movements via ground vibrations or something like that) yet still have functioning eye muscle, its eyes could just wander randomly while the camera movements are intentionally designed to be synchronized with the eye movements, making it as if it's looking at the camera.

There are Chameleos in the New World.
The reason we don't encounter them is because only old and dying Elder Dragons come to the New World, as explained in the story. Since all Chameleos are Martial Pacifists by nature they have learnt to keep themselves hidden from the Commission and its Fleets all these years, probably having learned to avoid the base and its hunters on their migration routes. Coupled with their signature invisibility powers, they could easily manage to remain completely undetectable by the Guild and probably reside deep in the uncharted parts of the continent where they eventually pass on without ever being seen by a human.
