The Chaikas are all possessed
They're all young girls possessed by a part of the real Chaika's spirit at a moment of extreme sorrow or loss. Each Chaika embodies one aspect of her personality, which is why they have different end goals. If a Chaika dies, the aspect finds the next suitable candidate.- Yes and no. They are not posessed; Arthur Gaz had a concubine whose looks and memories he used to (1) implant false memories on each Chaika and (2) model their common physical appearance, especially the white hair and purple eyes. If a Chaika dies, her traits/personality/memories do not pass onto another candidate.
The purpose of gathering the remains is not for Gaz's sake, but for Chaika's
Gaz realized that his daughter would likely also fall victim to any retribution against him, so he set up the Chaika system in case of her death. Once the remains are gathered together, the final effect will activate, bringing Chaika's soul out of the "fakes" and resurrecting her, with his fortune, friends (the girls who became Chaika's), and a cadre of protectors who helped them get there, Chaika would have a second chance at a happy life.- Jossed as of Episode 9 of Avenging Battle: the purpose of gathering the remains was so Arthur Gaz could be reincarnated.
