Visual Novel / X (hololive)

Go To

X is an upcoming Visual Novel designed by Machina X Flayon of Holostars English fame, focused around the lore of his avatar. It was announced on June 5th, 2023 through a prologue using in-engine footage.

Everyone knows Flayon is Elysium's greatest Ace Pilot and a natural prodigy. After all, he wouldn't have been hired into the famous guild TEMPUS if he wasn't. Yet his past is shrouded in mystery, the robots he commands being Black Boxes and his own personal history being obscured by thousands of resurrections.

X brings the answers to those questions to light... not all are victimless crimes.

Tropes:

  • A Day in the Limelight: The first public standalone lore piece for Holostars EN, featuring Flayon.
  • Ambiguous Situation:
    • Is X truly about Flayon's actual backstory, or is it more metaphorical in nature?
    • The person Flayon steals their talents from looks like him, but who exactly they are or if they're even real is never specified.
  • Darker and Edgier: One of the more grounded and realistic talent lore bits in Hololive, and the prologue alone doesn't pull any punches by showing Flayon realistically succumbing to mental darkness.
  • Deal with the Devil: The prologue has Flayon make a pact with C-TRUS to steal the talents of someone resembling him for his own personal gain and vanity. The cost of the deal is not specified, only that Flayon feels some kind of regret.
  • Mundanger: Despite being set in the fantastical world of Elysium, the thing that pushes Flayon over the edge is an actual phenomenon commonly referred to as "gifted kid syndrome," a form of whiplash and soft skill deficiency caused by the treatment of "gifted" students often not aligning with the demands of the real world. To really rub it in, Flayon is shown getting jeered at in normal everyday activities like singing and painting, rather than any sort of role more typical of TEMPUS's operations.
