Your opponents will be out to derail you in this crazy race to the finish!

Welcome to the X-TREME EXPRESS: WORLD GRAND PRIX championship for the most powerful and fastest trains in the world!
— The game's contents page in the instruction manual

X-treme Express is a train battling/racing game that very few have heard of. You get to play as over 80 different trains, most themed after various different trains across the world with a few that aren't. Race your way to the finish line while also derailing your opponents. You can also play the game in multiplayer for more train battling action.

You will need all your skill if you intend to reach 1st place, your opponents will try to derail you to slow you down, though you can do the same to them. Even as you reach the finish, you must be able to properly stay into the finishing platform or else face elimination. If that's not enough, try your hand at the Tour mode. Chase runaway trains, bump off your opponents and make it to the finish with a faulty train.

Tropes that apply to X-treme Express:

  • Autobots, Rock Out!: Several of the game's tracks make use of electric guitars, most notably the game's opening theme.
  • Cool Tank: Super Tank, based off what appears to be a military train.
  • Cool Train: You wouldn't think any of the game's trains are cool in real life, yet here you'll believe that that they are.
  • Flying Saucer: An unlockable train, the U.F.T is themed after U.F.Os.
  • Dem Bones: One of the unlockable trains, Mr Bone is themed after a skeleton.
  • Interface Screw: A mission type during Tour mode has you make it to the finish line while your train is malfunctioning, often meaning that your train's speed fluctuates out of control.
  • Kabuki Theatre: True to it's name, The Kabuki is an unlockable train based off Kabuki.
  • Market-Based Title: X-treme Express: World Grand Prix (also Tetsu-One Densha de Battle!) in Japan to simply X-treme Express elsewhere.
  • Multi-Track Drifting: If the player gets derailed, they can still race though they'll need to get back on the track.
  • Runaway Train: One of the mission types in Tour mode has you chase after a train and attach yourself to it to stop it from moving.
  • Slippy-Slidey Ice World: Snowy Plains takes place on a mountain filled with snow.
  • Unlockable Content: You can unlock 4 additional racetracks by placing 1st in Grand Prix and 50 additional trains by replaying the game (and completing missions in Tour mode)
  • Xtreme Kool Letterz: In both English and Japanese, though the latter is longer.
