Thank You For Loving Me While I Rot is a visual novel game by Axel Vejar Dossow, made on Rpg Maker MV.

Diethelm is a famous novelist, whose wife Prudence had been diagnosed with an unusual illness. Her entire body would rot, first from the inside then from the outside. While he promised to take care of her, he has second thoughts once she starts rotting from the outside.

The game was originally hosted here. However, the link got taken down years ago, and it is unclear if it was preserved anywhere else.

This game contains examples of:

  • Ailment-Induced Cruelty: Averted with Prudence, who continues being prim and proper, even after she gets hair loss and damage to her skin. Possibly to show how the rot only happens in Diethelm's head. Maybe.
  • Ascended Fangirl: Diethelm's lover is a huge fan of his novels.
  • Blame the Paramour: Prudence dismembers Diethelm's lover in the ending in which he leaves her. She never meant for it to happen. Quite the opposite, she didn't know that Diethelm was married to Prudence.
  • Beauty Is Never Tarnished: Subverted with Prudence. First she gets blisters in her skin, then her skin starts decaying and falling until she's left as nothing but muscle and bones.
  • Body Horror: Whatever Prudence's terminal illness is supposed to be, it is slowly rotting her body.
  • Declaration of Protection: Diethelm promised to take care of his wife, no matter how bad her illness gets. Until she does get worse and he realizes he can't live up to the task.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness: Unlike the creator's later games, this has stock photos for its backgrounds and it leans more on Psychological Horror.
  • GIS Syndrome: The game pretty much runs on this. It features stock photos of paintings for its backgrounds.
  • Multiple Endings:
    • Ending 1: If Diethelm chooses not to leave Prudence, he rejects his admirer to go back home to a wife he doesn't love anymore. By this point, Prudence's body has completely decayed, leaving only her muscle and bones. She smiles, thanking Diethelm for loving her while she rots.
    • Ending 2: If Diethelm chooses to leave Prudence, he starts a new life with his admirer. Until one day she goes missing and he receives a mysterious package. It contains his new wife's severed head and a taunting note from Prudence, mockingly stating that he broke his promise.
  • No Name Given: Diethelm's lover never gets a proper name, instead being referred as "his admirer" and, if Ending 2 happens, "his wife".
  • Off with His Head!: Prudence does it to Diethelm's lover in Ending 2.
  • Raven Hair, Ivory Skin: Prudence has black hair and pale skin, and is noted to be very beautiful. Until she starts rotting.
  • Through the Eyes of Madness: It's left ambiguous whether Prudence is really decaying or Diethelm simply doesn't her find her attractive anymore. Doesn't help he's the only one who can see the rot.
  • Villain Protagonist: He may have a few sympathetic moments here and there, but overall, Diethelm is a shallow asshole.
  • Woman Scorned: Prudence snaps if Diethelm decides to leave her.
