Penny Dreadfuls: Sweeney Todd is a 2010 hidden object game, produced by Pixelstorm Entertainment and distributed by Big Fish Games.

The plot is very close to that of The String of Pearls, the original tale of Sweeney Todd. You play as a new member of the London watch, looking into the disappearance of a young sailor named Mark under the guidance (and snarky comments) of Inspector Fowler.

Tropes:

  • Bedlam House: Sweeney has his young assistant Tobias locked up in Mr Fogg's Asylum when Tobias begins to suspect what's been going on. The hidden object scenes set inside the asylum bring it into this trope, looking more like a torture chamber than anything else. (And in the end credits, the asylum interior minus the hidden-objects is recycled for Sweeney's prison cell.)
  • Bittersweet Ending: Many victims were killed by Sweeney, and there will be extra caution as to the contents of pies from here on out. However, Johanna and Mark are reunited with plans to marry, Inspector Fowler intends to take Tobias under his wing and train him to be a watchman, and Sweeney is sentenced to be hanged for his crimes.
  • Burial at Sea: Reverend Lupin's body was found in the sea after having been disposed of by Sweeney.
  • Entitled to Have You: Reverend Lupin believes this about Johanna. She's flat-out rejected him as a suitor, and he still sent out the wedding invitations on the assumption that he can force her into marriage.
  • Poison Is Evil: Sweeney kills Mrs. Lovett with such, having no more use for her after killed as many victims as he needed and gaining ill-gotten goods that would have him set for life.
  • Rhymes on a Dime: Each chapter begins with a short number where the characters speak in rhyme like that of a musical.
  • Sinister Minister: In addition to trying to force the much younger Johanna into marriage, Lupin tries to extort money from Todd when he realizes Todd is carrying more gold than he could have gotten legitimately.
  • Stock Video Game Puzzle: While most of the gameplay is hidden-object scenes, there's several of these as well.
    • Entrapment Puzzle: For the final capture of Sweeney Todd.
    • Lock and Key Puzzle: Several. For just one example, you will need to collect a wheel from one scene, put it on a wheelbarrow from a second scene, collect the repaired wheelbarrow and use it in a third scene to clear rubbish away from the sewer gate, then use a key found in a fourth scene to unlock the door.
    • Puzzle Box: Sweeney has one of these in his rooms. Opening it requires sliding blocks around in order to move four colored marbles into the appropriately-colored spaces.
  • Timed Mission: While you can take as long as you like on each hidden object scene, you get a letter grade at the end of each chapter and one of the graded items is how long you took — so if you're trying to get a high score, you don't want to Take Your Time.
