I'm Tom. I live in Arizona. Complicated, ain't it? Arizona's where (most of) the Grand Canyon is (the river at the bottom is the Colorado), and is home to the largest Native American nation, the Navajo. I went to school with Navajos, Hopis, and a Havasupai girl; people who say silly things about them, make me crazy.
I don't much like people's minds—most people are morons, especially the "smart" people—but I like them as people...which means I tend to get very pissed off by ignorance. I feel people are too good for the ideas they have. You'll find me especially impatient with unexamined positivism and shallow skepticism; the former's based on nonsensical epistemology ("Nothing's true that's not provable by science"...except that, apparently), and the latter, aside from deriving from it, is simply announcing to the world, "I'm blindly incredulous! No, it's not any more rational than believing everything I hear, but it makes me much less pleasant!"
I've got a background (largely autodidact) in lit and film, languages, philosophy, history, economics, anthropology, and religion.
Incidentally, I hate Joss Whedon's vociferously overrated guts. Which seems to put me in the position of Golda Meier at a Farrakhan rally, hereabouts.
