- Backed by the Pentagon: The production came very close to being getting Pentagon support... until they read the script, after the production team extensively toured and took notes on Camp Ederle.
- Dawson Casting: Fraser and Caitlin are two 14 year olds. Both their actors were at least three or four years older than that when filming occurred.
- Queer Character, Queer Actor:
- Maggie is a lesbian in a same-sex marriage. Alice Braga, who plays her, has been dating fellow Brazilian actress Bianca Comparato for three years.
- Jack Dylan Grazer plays Fraser, who is gay or bi, and came out as bisexual in 2021, along with stating his pronouns as he/they.
- Caitlin is questioning her gender, and thinks she may be a trans boy. She also shows attraction to girls and boys. Actress Jordan Kristine Seamón realized she's genderfluid as a result of playing Caitlin, saying it was a personal journey of self-discovery. Seamón is also bisexual, and uses she/they pronouns.
- Shout-Out: An admirer and mentee of Maurice Pialat, Guadagnino named the base after him, using an Italianized version of his name (Caserma/Fort Maurizio Pialati).
