Trivia / Warlock (1967)

Go To

  • Creator's Favorite: While Jim Starlin did not create Adam Warlock, he is certainly a favourite character of the author who took him from an obscure Fantastic Four side character to one of the foremost tacticians of Marvel Comics in the 90's. Indeed, outside of mentioning his genesis as a Lee/Kirby character in the beginning, non-Starlin Warlock stories are basically never brought up.
  • What Could Have Been: Supposedly, Jack Kirby invented him (er, "Him") and his scientist creators as a Take That! directed at Ayn Rand and Objectivism. The idea was that the scientists weren't evil as such, but wanted to create a perfectly self-sufficient perfect being — only to discover, when he awoke, that such a self-centered being had absolutely no use for them and destroyed them. When Stan Lee went to pen the dialogue for all this, he vetoed the concept in favor of a much more straightforward scenario with megalomaniac scientists and a sympathetic creation who rebels against their evil plan. Jack was not happy with this, and it became one more factor in the growing professional rift between him and Stan.
