• Dawson Casting: Abbie is 24 years old when the movie takes place. She was played by Greta Gerwig, who was 33 when the movie came out. However, Older Than They Look comes into play here.
• Write What You Know: Mike Mills based the movie on his childhood, with Jamie being closely related to his teenage self, and Dorothea and Abbie being respectively based on his mother and sister.
