Trivia / Total War: Warhammer II

Go To

  • Ascended Fanon: The May Mortal Empires patch incorporates many features that modders implemented into the game first. Including, but not limited to;
    • Ungrim Ironfist, after essentially two years, finally received his own sub faction, being moved from Karaz-a-Karak to his home city Karak Kadrin. This was originally done by Crynsos' Faction Unlocker+.
    • The Dawi got their own crafting system based on the Tomb Kings one, showing off their skills as the Ultimate Blacksmith of the setting. This had been done prior (albeit with immense technical difficulties) by Runeforging.
    • After popular demand, the unforgiving and strict Skaven food system was overhauled and made easier with the addition of many other ways to get food for your horde, which Adjusted Skaven Food did before it.
    • The Vampire Coast update introduced Island and Black Ark Battles, which were implemented prior by the GCCM: Naval Battles mod.
  • Celebrity Voice Actor:
  • Development Hell: The reason for Norsca's long delay for Mortal Empires and the delay for both DLC and FLC was due to not only the team being spread thin as a result of CA having several projects going on at once (such as Thrones of Britannia: A Total War Saga and Total War: Three Kingdoms), but also because they overestimated their ability to get it done early, as regretfully explained in the official blog post.
    • It also seems to have been a case of Gone Horribly Right. They made a lot of changes for TWW2 based on what they learned from the first game. But that made the second game so different that porting Norsca into it wasn't possible anymore forcing them to implement the entire faction nearly from scratch (with art assets being basically all they could use).
  • Doing It for the Art: The unique monster versus monster animations were initially not meant to be included due to there being no room in the budget for them. So the animators used their own free-time to make the animations so that they could be used in the final product.
  • Dummied Out: An odd case for the Lizardmen who have two units that were previewed but still do not exist in the actual game: Temple Guards with Maces (appeared in the Prophet and the Warlock trailer) and Temple Guard Horned One Riders (in a gaming magazine preview).
  • Fandom Nod:
    • Empire players who conquer Pigbarter can get a special follower named Sir Man Delour, in tribute to the review of the game by MandaloreGaming, where he mentioned conquering the city as every faction.
    • Oxyotl starts with a hero who has a unique trait that references one of the franchise's YouTube content creators, Loremaster of Sotek. The hero has a Troglodon mount named C'hloe after his dog.
  • Lying Creator: A positive example of this. Creative Assembly engaged in one of the most popular memes in Warhammer lore by denying all evidence that the Skaven would be in the game. A rat with glowing eyes in a trailer? Just a coincidence, there are lots of rats. Skaven clan symbols hidden in trailers? Meaningless, people are just seeing things that aren't there.
  • Promoted Fanboy:
  • Role Reprise: BRIAN BLESSED!!!!!, who voices Gotrek Gurnisson in the Realmslayer Audio Dramas, returns to voice Gotrek Gurnisson in this game as an FLC Legendary Lord.
  • What Could Have Been: Creative Assembly expressed their desire to add Prince Apophas, the Cursed Scarab Lord, to the game. However, his nature as The Worm That Walks proved too daunting for the game's engine and he was scrapped as a result.
