  • Creative Differences: Several times.
    • Brendan van Ryn was fired for multiple reasons - he wasn't getting along with the band, he was a poor live performer, he had drug issues, and he wouldn't put in the work to improve. It was not, however, due to misogyny, as Andy Marsh clarified that that was pure fiction and folklore and his lyrics didn't reflect his views at all.
    • CJ McMahon was fired after years of increasingly contentious relations with the rest of the band - while his comments in support of a Matt Walsh video were one of the deciding factors (along with his nuclear response when they confronted him over it), they made it clear that that was by no means an isolated incident, CJ had been a massive problem for a while, and that the thought had started to creep into their minds well before that incident.
    • Subverted with Lee Stanton, as he had a mental breakdown and had to leave for his own wellbeing; before he went on record about what had happened, Andy Marsh had to clarify that it had nothing to do with alcohol and Lee was not a heavy drinker by any reasonable standard, and that they did not appreciate the rumor mill coming up with that last one.
  • Creator Backlash: In addition to their well-known and unanimous hatred for Infinite Death, Andy has also expressed his dislike for "Immolation" because, by his own admission, the solo is ridiculously difficult to play and he just doesn't have the time to practice for the bulk of the day just to be able to pull off one deep cut.
  • Creator Breakdown: CJ, which led to him leaving the band (though he eventually rejoined after getting help and kicking drugs), and Lee, who also quit because of it and eventually managed to reach a good place again, but has opted to not rejoin.
  • Dear Negative Reader: Andy Marsh has publicly expressed his disdain and contempt on Reddit for the type of Thy Art Is Murder fan that always complains about new releases: a loudmouthed Disco Dan who complains about how it doesn't sound like Infinite Death and/or that they're a bunch of stuck-up SJWs who think they're too good to listen to their fans because they won't play "Whore to a Chainsaw" or the title track.
  • Old Shame: Their pre-CJ material. They don't like the music and absolutely hate Brendan van Ryn's lyrics, and as of 2017, they adamantly refuse to play anything from that era; one fan's live request for "Whore to a Chainsaw" even triggered a lengthy rant from CJ about how much they hated that song, how uncomfortable he was with singing it, and how they were never going to play it or anything else off of that album again.
  • What Could Have Been: George Fisher was originally supposed to guest on "Voyeurs into Death" on Human Target, but it fell through.
