• Accidentally-Correct Writing: Of the prophetic type. This strip (Doc flipping a calender from December 2019 to January 2020) was drawn on January 3. He gets a pie in the face, and thinks, "Ah. So it's going to be one of THOSE kinds of years, is it?" Was it ever!
• Word of God: Doc Nickel is a regular on his comic's forum, and frequently answers fan questions. He's not above poking fun, either: in response to a fan's question on the forum asking what had happened to the rest of Sandy's Egg McMuffin, he invoked Word of God, then had a bit of fun with it.
• Write What You Know: The author's biography (read here) makes it pretty clear that he knows what he's talking about (he even owned a paintball field for a couple years).
• Writing by the Seat of Your Pants: Repeatedly on the forum for the strip, Doc Nickel has admitted that he makes up the strips as they go, with almost no previous planning. This has occasionally resulted in an Aborted Arc like one year's Thanksgiving storyline.
