• Dawson Casting: Jake, Amy and Hartley; although their ages are not explicitly given so far, their characters are just starting and getting into high school and are nowhere near graduation, which means they should be between 14 and 16 years old. In real life, Reed Horstmann who plays Jake was 19, Isabella Pappas who plays Amy was also 19, and Kayden Muller-Janssen who plays Hartley was 20 when the show first started filming.
• Fake American: Isabella Pappas was born in Italy, lived in Japan, and started her professional career in the U.K. That said, while Italian is her first language, her American accent is natural, having learned English from her American mother.
• Typecasting: Patricia Belcher as Celia, an Expy of her role as stern and grouchy neighbor Mrs. Dabney in Good Luck Charlie.
• Working Title: The show was originally called Amy from Amarillo, and later Meet the Mayhems. The family name Mayhem was changed to the less obvious Madden.
