Trivia / The Victorian Way

Go To

  • Descended Creator: In recent episodes food historian Dr. Annie Gray, a consultant for the series, often appears as Mary Ann, one of Mrs Crocombe's kitchen maids.
  • Spin-Off Cookbook: How to Cook the Victorian Way is a guide to the life, times and tastes of Mrs Crocombe, a Victorian cook. Her historical cookery videos have millions of views and fans have been asking for a cookery book since the beginning of the series. It showcases recipes from real Mrs Crocombe's own hand-written book, alongside other recipes of the Victorian period.
  • Technology Marches On: Any of the recipes involving ice. While most of the videos qualify for this trope to some extent, keeping ice in the 1800's was an arduous task as it had to be imported from far-northern regions and stored in an ice-house, which a British noble family would be wealthy enough to have on their property. English Heritage explained in the comments to one such video that refrigeration technology was in its infancy in the Victorian years, and factory-produced "artificial" ice was seen as a dirty inferior to the natural kind.
  • Referenced by...: Australian Drag Queen duo Novympia has done a parody of Mrs Crocombe on their YouTube channel where Olympia plays a very shady Crocombe with Nova as the put-upon Mary-Anne.
    • English Heritage has watched the video, and they commented, "We're not convinced this is 100% historically accurate, but it is definitely 100% ICONIC!" and sent the pair a gift package which the pair made video opening.
  • You Look Familiar: Kathy Hipperson plays multiple characters on English Heritage, but since Mrs Crocombe is the most popular, viewers often joke that the other ones are Crocombe in disguise, her long-lost twin, or, in the medieval videos, her ancestor.
