- Awesome, Dear Boy: Jean Gabin signed immediately on the project knowing he would play alongside Bourvil.
- Breakthrough Hit: This was the film that truly got Louis de Funès noticed. Le Gendarme de Saint-Tropez would cement him as a national star.
- California Doubling: The film didn't have a big budget and so was filmed on studio lots at Saint-Maurice (Val-de-Marne), because no exterior shot of Paris could be made. The silhouettes of the monuments of Paris were all giant cardboards designed by chief decorator Max Douy, and the black and white greatly helped concealing this.
- Those Two Actors: It's the first film to have Jean Gabin and Louis de Funès in major roles. Le Gentleman d'Epsom and The Tattoo followed.
- What Could Have Been: The film was going to be made in colors, but budget cuts had it filmed in black and white instead.
