- Banned in China: 2010: Odyssey Two was banned in the USSR from 1984 - a serialisation being stopped mid-run - until 1989 - after they found out Clarke had snuck the names of Chinese dissidents into the story.

- Science Marches On: While Bowman is reflecting on the possibility of life in the Saturn system in 2001, he dismisses Titan as a possibility owing of its "thin envelope" of an atmosphere. It has since been discovered that Titan's atmosphere is thicker than Earth's.
- Shrug of God: What about the plot inconsistencies between the books? Parallel universes - which of course could be used for any work of fiction that differs from its prequel/sequel. Oh, well.
- Technology Marches On:
- In 2061 Floyd estimates it'll take a search engine roughly 10 minutes to identify a poem based on only a few lines. Modern search engines can often do that within 10 seconds.
