Trivia / The Simpsons S 7 E 23 Much Apu About Nothing

Go To

  • Accidentally-Correct Writing: The writers may have just intended for Homer's ignorance of American civics to be Played for Laughs, but many native-born American citizens would probably fail the U.S. citizenship test.
  • Blooper: Two Ralph Wiggums are standing watching when Willie tells the kids to pick on him.
  • Creator's Favorite Episode: Matt Groening named this as one of his ten favourite episodes.
  • Deleted Scene:
    • A slight extension to Homer being "menaced" by the bear has it eating his business cards when it gets his pants.
    • At the second mob scene, it's shown Quimby could make allowances in the budget for the Bear Patrol, but he'd have to give up his secretarial pool. Which is actually a pool room beside his office where various scantily clad women are frolicking and playing, which is where Quimby decides to shift blame to immigrants.
  • First Appearance: Of Manjula, in a flashback as a child.
  • Working Title: The episode was originally called "The Anti-Immigrant Song", a play on Led Zeppelin's "Immigrant Song".
  • Write What You Know: Apu studying computer science is based on David X. Cohen's own academic background, where he met and became friends with Indian people in the department. Similarly, the scene where Apu does an in-depth explanation of what caused the American Civil War, only for the test taker to respond with "just say slavery", is something that actually happened to a friend of Cohen when she got her citizenship test taken. The name of Proposition 24 was also taken from Cohen's jersey number in little league.
