• Christmas Rushed: After a poorly received test screening, the episode was given a complete overhaul with over a hundred line changes, and with just six weeks until the episode was due to air.
• Creator's Favorite Episode:
  • The "King Homer" segment is one of Matt Groening's favorite Treehouse of Horror stories.
  • The writers consider "You killed the zombie Flanders", "He was a zombie?" one of the all-time classic Simpsons lines.
• Defictionalization: In 2001, Playmates Toys released a working replica of the talking Krusty doll from the "Clown Without Pity" segment, complete with "good"/"evil" switch.
• What Could Have Been: The spinning newspaper in the "King Homer" segment originally announced the birth of Woody Allen (and if you freeze frame the spinning, it still does) but the final episode features the birth of Dick Cavett instead. Presumably the recent controversy surrounding Allen caused the writers to change it.
