Trivia / The Pyramid

• California Doubling: Set in Egypt, but shot in Morocco.
• Dueling Movies: With As Above, So Below, another found-footage, archaeology-based horror movie that came out about four months earlier. The Pyramid was doomed to lose the box office battle from the start (see Screwed by the Studio below), but it also received worse reviews.
• Screwed by the Studio: 20th Century Fox did very little promotion for the film outside of horror-centric websites, and dumped it into just 589 North American theatres on the first weekend of December (traditionally one of the worst box office weekends of the year). The following weekend they expanded it to 685 theatres; just barely enough for it to technically count as a "nationwide" release. It made less than $3 million domestically.
