Trivia / The Noid

Go To

  • Dolled-Up Installment: The NES Yo! Noid game is an Americanised version of the game Kamen no Ninja Hanamaru with some major differences in graphics, plot, and characters.
  • Distanced from Current Events: The Noid wasn’t used for such a long time because of a tragic incident involving a mentally ill man whose name was Kenneth Lamar Noid. In 1989, he entered a Domino’s in a suburban neighborhood of Atlanta and took hostages because he believed the ads were targeting him. He was apprehended and no one was hurt, but he committed suicide in 1995, still thinking he was being targeted. Domino’s stopped using the mascot immediately afterward.
  • Referenced by...:
    • The Family Guy episode "Deep Throats" has Mayor Adam West warning Meg about the Noid as he goes to pick up pizza. The Noid jumped on his pizza box, but then Mayor West chased the Noid and gave him a beatdown before wringing his neck.
Mayor West: Perhaps it was the Noid that should have avoided me.
    • The Noise of Pizza Tower is a walking reference to the Noid, whom fittingly was a contraption-wielding adversary to the game's pizza chef protagonist. His girlfriend Noisette even wears a bunny ear hat similar to the Noid's.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • According to these screenshots The Noid would have looked more goblin-like and had a beenie, Later design also shows he was an alien-like character design with antenna and a helmet. Also at some point, he would have been a human (child ...?). There is also a blue noid that seems to have not appeared in any commercials.
    • The Noid was going to have his own animated TV series in 1988 for CBS. However, complaints from the Action for Children's Television stated that it was merely an advertising ploy and not a show for children, causing the idea to be scrapped.
