  • Author's Saving Throw: Charles Stross has stated that he "wasn't proud" of how he portrayed Bob's ex Mhari Murphy in The Atrocity Archive, so took advantage of Bob's status as an unreliable narrator to reintroduce her as a rather different person in later books.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Charles Stross has stated (in a Q&A for Quantum of Nightmares) that the original resolution to CASE NIGHTMARE GREEN would have involved an artificial pandemic; a cold virus that caused brain fog and mutated to reinfect victims, but did little permanent harm. The arrival of COVID-19 made that option unworkable and he’s since been rewriting.
    • The Delirium Brief received major changes as a result of Brexit and its handling. Previously, the British Government would avoid completely falling to New Management. However, the way subsequent crisis were handled made Stross believe he was being too optimistic.
  • Word of God: According to Stross, Old George in The Rhesus Chart is actually Lord Ruthven from The Vampyre, the first ever prose vampire story in English.
  • Working Title: Escape from Puroland was retitled to Escape from Yokai Land shortly before publication, apparently because the publisher’s lawyers were getting a little nervous.
