- Science Marches On: Father Universe and Mother Flame sentence the Queen of Chaos to live in a cage until a new star is born — an event that happens about once a year in Real Life. Then again, this may be justified by the fact that constellations are established as sentient beings elsewhere in the series, so they probably don't operate quite the same way.
- What Could Have Been: This was originally conceived of as a trilogy rather than a quartet and Emperor Mage does end with the Big Bad who's been behind the events of the last two books deposed and de-powered to a degree and leaves the book in an almost Exit, Pursued by a Bear fashion. Uuosae hadn't come up at all.
