  • Hostility on the Set: According to Austin Pendleton, Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau had troubles with Billy Wilder (with whom both had collaborated with) during filming, both sides saying they would never work together again. However, seven years later, they did work together again on Buddy Buddy, which became Wilder's final film.
  • Old Shame:
    • Carol Burnett disliked her performance so much that years later, when she was a passenger on a flight that had the film as its in-flight movie, she stood up at the end and apologized to the passengers for what they had just witnessed.
    • Director Billy Wilder also didn't have strong feelings for it, saying that he was against remakes in general and that this was the result of the production studio pushing him to do it.
