Trivia / The Cassandra Crossing

Go To

  • California Doubling:
    • "Geneva" is actually Basel SBB, the train's next stopover In-Universe.
    • The post-Basel scenes are supposed to be in Germany. They're all still shot in Switzerland, including the scene when the train enters "Nuremberg".
    • "Nuremberg" itself is a freight yard somewhere in Italy, complete with an Italian engine disguised as the previous Swiss one (which couldn't safely operate in Germany either, by the way).
    • The diesel scenes post-"Nuremberg" are shot in France with a diesel locomotive repainted from blue to green in order not to look too French.
    • The Cassandra bridge is actually the famous Viaduc de Garabit in France, designed by Gustave Eiffel, creator of the Eiffel Tower.
  • Creator Couple: Ann Turkel (Susan), was married to Richard Harris at the time of filming. However, her character is paired with Tom while Harris is paired with the Sophia Loren character.
  • Money, Dear Boy: The explanation for Ava Gardner's participation.
