• Approval of God: The original creator of Tetris, Alexey Pajitnov, expressed his enjoyment of the game and said it was one of the best Tetris games of 2019.
• Killer App: Like with the original Tetris for the Game Boy, Tetris 99 follows in its footsteps by being one for the Nintendo Switch Online service as a result of being given away for free to its subscribers. Nintendo credited it as boosting user engagement with the Nintendo Switch Online service, with over a quarter of NSO subscribers signed up to it playing it.
