  • Approval of God: A Mandarin/ Cantonese song titled "Zhou Xing Chi" (周星翅), by a Malaysian group, created as a tribute to Stephen was reposted by Stephen himself on Instagram.
  • Irony as She Is Cast: Stephen's movies in the 1990s have a habit of casting women who are plain-looking at worst for roles which uglify them via make-up/ prosthetics. This includes his long-time buddies Sandra Ng and Kingdom Yuen. Special mention goes to Karen Mok who had to play a disfigured character in God of Cookery and another ugly character for her cameo in Shaolin Soccer (Cecilia Cheung also had to play an ugly character for her cameo in the same film). One major aversion was Gong Li in Flirting Scholar, although Gong claimed that she regretted the decision in an interview after the release of the film,.
  • Star-Making Role: Chow's movies has this effect on up and coming actresses who end up having strong careers after their debut.
