• Hostility on the Set: Minor example. According to David Hewlett, snarky comments he'd made during the interim between the cancellation of Atlantis and the premiere of Universe came back to bite him during filming. The Universe cast had not appreciated the perceived lack of support from someone who'd been in their shoes 5 years earlier when Atlantis premiered and had to distinguish itself from SG-1. Lou Diamond Phillips in particular gave Hewlett grief (though Hewlett apologized, explained he had been joking, and patched things up with Phillips).
• Real Life Writes the Plot: The reason why it took so long for Atlantis characters to cross over onto their sister show. At the time, the production team was still trying to get the Atlantis Direct-to-Video film Extinction off the ground. They did not want Atlantis characters appearing on Universe at this point due to the film's timeline and to avoid spoiling things (likely to avoid repeating similar problems when the SG-1 Movies got pushed back and affected Atlantis Season Four). However, with the Great Recession and the collapse of the Direct-to-Video market, Extinction became stuck in Development Hell. So, they ultimately changed their minds and brought over Woolsey and Rodney.
