• Recast as a Regular: Gary Graham (playing Tanis) will reappear as Ambassador Soval in Star Trek: Enterprise, and later Ragnar in Tim Russ's fan-film Star Trek: Renegades. He had also been on the shortlist to play both Sisko and Janeway before The Powers That Be decided to make the characters African-American and a woman, respectively.
• What Could Have Been: Suspiria was created in case The Powers That Be decided to abandon The Homeward Journey premise and go straight back to the Alpha Quadrant. That's why she's not killed off here, but also why we never see her again.
