• Actor-Shared Background: Like Geordi, LeVar Burton was also a Military Brat.
• Development Gag: More instances of the number 47. The nebula is named FGC 47, and when the crew figures out how to image the energy strands that are impeding the ship's progress, they find a lattice of 47 million of them.
• What Could Have Been: In earlier drafts of the script, Isabella posed no threat to the Enterprise and simply wished to find out more about the ship and her crew. That changed in part due to there being no real urgency to the storyline, and also when it was realised that they had essentially just written a gender-swapped version of Season 2's "The Child".
